The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation in association with the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center and the YMCA of Simi Valley, is thrilled to present a special event dedicated to the history and tradition of Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls. This unique educational and hands-on experience is part of our pre-Hispanic Heritage Festival activities, and we warmly invite the entire community to join us.

On Thursday, September 26, from 4 pm to 5:30 pm, local artist and CSUN professor Diana Cabral will share the captivating history and cultural significance behind the beautifully decorated Sugar Skulls. The event will include a live demonstration on how to create these intricate designs, and each attendee will receive a recipe to craft their own Sugar Skulls at home.

This event offers a wonderful opportunity for the Simi Valley community to engage in a creative celebration. Participants are encouraged to design and create their own Sugar Skulls in various mediums—such as drawing, painting, paper Mache, or ceramics—and bring them to a special Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Exhibition at our Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 28 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. Every participant contributing to the exhibit will receive a certificate of participation.
