Born in Los Angeles County, Fox Hills, California, Fernando Albert Salinas received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Entertainment from FSU and a Bachelor of Arts in English at California State University, Channel Islands. Fernando Albert Salinas has been associated with California Poets in the Schools as a member of the Board of Directors, a Ventura County Area Coordinator, and a Master Poet-Teacher for over 15 years. He is currently the Statewide Program Manager for CalPoets. He is also a Professor of English at Ventura College, the poet in residence for Oxnard Union High School District, and the Editor-in-chief for Spit Shine Publishing. As Literary Arts Program Coordinator for the Ventura County Arts Council (2010-2023), he focused on enhancing the presence and appreciation of poetry and the literary arts, raising awareness of the power of literature, poetry, and the spoken word. In 2012, Salinas initiated the Groundswell Committee, a small collection of local poets, with the support of the Ventura County Arts Council, and created the County’s poet laureate program. In 2018, he implemented a youth poet laureate program for the county. His poetry collection, Toxic Masculinity, was released in 2021. He has performed his spoken word internationally. Luzmaria Espinosa grew up in Santa Paula. “Luzma” received her BA in Spanish with a minor in Sociology from UCSB, a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Antioch University, and a certified adult education credential. She has taught theatre and poetry to children and youth in schools and in the community through non-profit community agencies and juvenile detention centers. As a coordinator for youth violence prevention/intervention programs, she was influential in developing strong leadership skills with youth who would have otherwise not gone on to school. She inspires and encourages students to heal by expressing themselves through cultural performances, writing stories, or poetry. Luzma is a past recipient of the CA Arts Council Artist in Residence, the SP Latino Town Hall Award in Cultural Arts, and the Jalapeno Award from the Royal Chicano Air Force. She is a member of California Poets in the Schools, a member of the Royal Chicano Air Force, In Lak ‘Ech Cultural Arts Center, and LUCHA, Inc. She was inaugurated as Ventura County’s Poet Laureate for 2020-2022 and 2022-2024.

Vincent Trevino Jimenez is a Chicano poet, Slam Champion, and an emerging scholar. He is a Northridge student working on his Bachelor's in History and Chicano studies. In addition, Vincent is a Ventura College worker who encourages students to pursue what they are passionate about and reminds them that true change starts with their voices. 

Hi my name is Sofia Noriega! I live in Oxnard CA, and attend Oxnard Middle College High School. I was the Ventura County's Poetry Out Loud 2023 winner and the Ventura County’s poetry out loud ambassador. I have been published in two ethnology's. I love reading poetry, reciting poems, and overall getting to share a piece of myself with the world.
